FAQ

Virtual Races

What is a Virtual Race?

A virtual race is a self-motivated competition that is organized online where you complete a specific distance by running, walking or cycling on a date and time of your choosing, anywhere in the world.

Virtual racing can be done on a treadmill at home or at the gym, at the beach, with friends, alone, in the evening, or at the break of dawn, it’s your choice.

Whether you are looking to jump start your fitness routine or you’re a competitive runner, a virtual race is a great way to get a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or full Marathon under your belt. To learn more read our full page on virtual racing.

How Do I Create a Custom Virtual Race?

We have helped many organizations and individuals raise money for their own fundraisers. We will do our best to provide you the lowest cost in medal production to give back the most in funds raised for your charity. Our goal is to provide your charity $10 for every race registration. We will help you with the medal design, medal production, race organization, advertisement, and hosting of race results. We also offer group discounts.

Shipping

When will I receive my medal?

Your time and schedule is on your terms so we don’t hold your medal until you submit your results or until our race period ends. If the medal is in stock (not in production or on backorder) it is shipped out next business day via USPS First Class mail. If we are on vacation or attending a destination race, a notification will be displayed at the top of the website and on your receipt with the next shipment date. Each individual virtual race page has a medal status description above the “Add to Cart” button. Medal re-orders typically take 6-8 weeks to be manufactured.

Shipment updates are available via email notifications. Please check your spam or junk mail folders if you have not received a confirmation email that your medal was shipped.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship all over the world. International shipping costs are calculated via PayPal and will not be reflected in your cart immediately. We ship our medals using USPS First Class Mail or USPS Priority Mail.  Tracking is provided on all shipments but once package leaves the US tracking is sometimes not provided. If you would like added insurance please contact us.

Charities

How do I know my money is going to charity?

Transparency and open disclosure of our donation information is essential for maintaining the trust participants place in RFA. Click here to read letters from the charities we proudly support! RFA is purely about that charity and the participant. It’s not about the profit.  Any money leftover is put right back into launching another virtual race. We are here because our participants keep coming back and enjoy the virtual race experience with us.  It has become a fun experience for us too.

Do you take recommendations for charities?

Yes, we regularly receive suggestions and recommendations for new charities to add to our supported organizations. Please contact us with the name of the charity you would like for us to consider. Please understand that we cannot accommodate all requests. Each charity is chosen for what they provide in services and assistance. Diligent research in each charity’s standards are investigated to ensure that each charity practices sound financial management and effective program delivery.

How much is donated to the respective charities?

We strive to give the most to charities and try to keep the cost of the race fee low at the same time. For our custom races, 80-100% of net proceeds goes directly to the charity. At the very least $8.00 is donated.  For our regular virtual races as of January 2017 20% of proceeds are donated directly to the charity.

Troubleshooting

I don’t have a PayPal account. Can I pay with a credit card?

Yes, you do not need a PayPal account to purchase a virtual race medal. PayPal allows you to use a credit card instead. Click here for how to purchase using a credit card.

I created an account but I can’t log in.

All RFA accounts have to be activated for security reasons. As soon as you create an account and email is sent to the email address you provided with a link. To activate your account and access secured pages please click or copy and paste the link into your web browser. Sometimes our emails are filtered into Spam or Junk Mail folders. Please check these folders too. To prevent this from happening add our email address admin@racesforawareness.com to your contact list or safe list.

PayPal phone app won’t let me purchase.

If you are having difficulties purchasing through PayPal on your phone, it may be that you have form auto-fill enabled on your phone’s browser. Try deleting any pre-filled entries on the PayPal form and retype your login info. If that doesn’t work, please try to purchase via a computer and not the PayPal phone app. We are sorry for the inconvenience but this is not an issue on our end that we can troubleshoot or fix but rather an issue with the PayPal app itself.

I registered for a race, where can I find my order?

When you place an order you will be given the option to create an account on the order form. We highly recommend you create an account so you can see a list of your RFA orders and enter your times and photos. You will then need to activate your account. An email will be sent to the email address you provided with a link to activate your account. Once you log into your RFA account click on the “My Account” link found at the top of the page by hovering Login. This will list all the orders you placed.
