Our Hunger Awareness virtual race is focused on bringing awareness to those struggling with hunger. Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Their mission is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.

“Through the assistance of local and national food assistance programs, Feeding America is able to provide nutritious, fresh foods to Americans struggling with hunger; safe and nurturing places for children to have a meal; emergency assistance for disaster victims; as well as a chance at self-sufficiency for adults trying to break the cycle of poverty and hunger.

The Feeding America network of more than 200 member food banks has created a strong foundation geared towards getting wholesome staples to the 37 million people they serve each year.

Feeding America is uniquely positioned to help those who struggle with hunger while also promoting better nutrition by increasing access to healthful foods like fruits and vegetables, raising awareness of the coexistence of hunger with other diet-related diseases, and by promoting nutrition education.”   (http://feedingamerica.org/)

Farm to Food Bank

“A number of food banks are also involved in farm and garden programs, which not only help to get more fresh and local produce but also provide opportunities for nutrition education and community collaboration. Furthermore, many farmers across the country choose to grow a portion of their harvest for the food bank (Plant a Row), and home gardeners are also finding ways to donate their home-grown produce to local food pantries (Ample Harvest).”  (http://healthyfoodbankhub.feedingamerica.org/)
