What is a Virtual Race? Simply put a virtual race is a race on your own terms. You choose the location, the time, and the distance. A portion of your race fee is donated to charity and you receive cool bling and a swag bag with goodies in the mail.

A virtual race is a self-motivated competition that is organized online where you complete a specific distance by running, walking or cycling on a date and time of your choosing, anywhere in the world. Virtual racing can be done on a treadmill at home or at the gym, at the beach, with friends, alone, in the evening, or at the break of dawn, it’s your choice. Whether you are looking to jump start your fitness routine or you’re a competitive runner, a virtual race is a great way to get a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or full Marathon under your belt.

Why is it called a “virtual” race?

The term virtual according to Oxford Dictionary, “implies almost or nearly as described, but not completely or according to strict definition”. Traditional and Virtual races are both competitions but they differ in the flexibility and convenience of time and location. Traditional races are scheduled at a specific time and place and at a specific distance. Virtual races are at your own time and place. You also choose the distance.

RFA Donations

Races for Awareness® adds a level of philanthropy to help others in need by donating a portion of your race entry fee to the featured charity. We strive to give back as much as possible to the charities by keeping production costs down. Each charity is close to our hearts. We have a running tally of the amount of funds raised for each charity on our website. For each custom virtual race at least 80% of net proceeds are donated to the featured charity. We also have a direct donation link if you opt to make a donation independent of a virtual race.
